I didn’t watch the Oscars. I simply didn’t have the time. Of course, I followed most of the event on social media. I know that Jennifer Lawrence tripped and fell again, Leonardo DiCaprio somehow still didn’t win, and Ellen ordered pizza to feed the audience. I also have not been able to avoid the “Oscar selfie,” which is pretty hilarious, if you ask me.
My favorite part about awards shows is that I can basically re-live them and get a general sense of what the night was like simply by clicking through a few photo galleries. Online magazines and blog posts are broadcast almost instantly; in a matter of seconds of the events occurring, I know which guests were the best and worst dressed of the evening.
After browsing through the fashionable highlights of the night and agreeing with almost all of the choices on the best dressed lists, I was curious about which fashion successes may have gone unnoticed. Here, I present to you six celebrity looks that somehow didn’t make the cut. These fashion wins didn’t get nearly the amount of praise that they deserve.
I couldn’t tell you why.
Calista Flockhart in Andrew Gn
Harrison Ford’s wife looks elegant and super comfortable in this off-white textured gown with embroidered cap sleeves. Her look is modern and super classy and a perfect fit for the age demographic that she represents. Why haven’t we seen more of her in Oscars past?
Khloé Kardashian in Marc Bouwer
2013 may have been a bit of a rocky year for Kardashian, but she certainly didn’t show it at Elton John’s 22nd Annual AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party. She looked fierce as ever in a form-fitting red velvet dress, which she paired with a daring plum lip. Reason #4532 why she is my favorite of the Kardashian clan.
Chanel Iman in Zuhair Murad Couture
Just because she is a Victoria’s Secret Angel doesn’t mean I’m sick of hearing about her. Iman shone at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, where she wore a 1920s-esque royal blue gown with sexy, strategically-placed cutouts, beaded embellishments, and sheer paneling.
Rachel Smith in Sherri Hill
Miss USA 2007 took the Oscars as an opportunity to remind us that she most definitely still is a beauty queen. Smith looked comfortable and confident in her sassy, all-black attire, which she paired with a simple necklace and breezy fishtail braid. Gorg!
Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka
Osbourne may be a member of the Fashion Police, but she took her standing on the best dressed list into her own hands on the red carpet this past weekend. She paired a creamy white, curve-hugging gown with a vintage shawl and her signature lavender locks– perfectly coiffed, of course.
Olivia Wilde in Valentino
If you looked at her straight on, you wouldn’t even know she’s pregnant! This mommy-to-be opted for a classic black turtleneck gown. Her exposed back and arms make for a sexy, elegant pairing that leaves just enough to the imagination. My favorite part: the tuxedo-esque trail of white that flows down the dress’s train.
What were your favorite looks from the evening? Are there any others that you think should have recognized but weren’t? Let me know! (:
