Today, our nation mourns the 12th anniversary of the horrific terrorists attacks that took place on September 11, 2001.  We remember the innocent civilians who lost their lives, and we honor the first responders who walked toward danger instead of away from it. It may have been 12 years ago, but the memories of that day, and of those who sacrificed so much, remain fresh in our minds.  It is important that we, as Americans, never forget this tragedy, for it shaped our nation and made us stronger.  Here, some of the most iconic images taken that fateful September day:
