Summer Trends to Try: Week 1

I will be posting two summer trends for you to try in preparation for the official first day of summer (June 21st!)

Today marks the start of the countdown:

High-low hemlines.  These hems are flattering on every body type and work for almost any occasion.  Work a short skirt with a long, flowing train, or keep it simple with a traditional cut that starts just above the knee and makes its way to your ankles.  High-low skirts should be worn above the waistline at the smallest part of the stomach, and dresses should cinch here, as well.  Dress it up with pumps and accessories or dress it down with a light jacket and sandals.  It’s summer’s easiest and chicest look.

Classic circle skirts.  Though this look made its way onto the scene in the 1950s, its more modern, shorter hemline has revamped the look to make it less homemaker and more HOT.  Circle skirts are so flattering because they hit high above the waste before and create a circular flare that hits about an inch above the knee.  Go for shorter versions of the circle skirt for casual, fun events, like parties or a day of shopping.  When it’s time to be more professional, tuck in any kind of collared shirt, and be sure the hemline hits lower on the leg.
